AGM - (Absorbed Glass Mat) sealed battery technology was originally developed in 1985 for military aircraft where power, weight, safety, and reliability were paramount considerations. In AGM sealed batteries, the acid is absorbed between the plates and immobilized by a very fine fiberglass mat. This glass mat absorbs and immobilizes the acid while still keeping the acid available to the plates. This allows a fast reaction between acid and plate material. GEL – battery technology is similar to AGM in that the battery is a sealed unit. The Electrolyte however is contained in a gel to prevent as apposed to being absorded in the sponge. Gel batteries are typically a bit more costly than the same physical size AGM battery. The Gel Cell excels in slow discharge rates and slightly higher ambient operating temperatures. So is more suited to cyclic applications outside air conditioned environments such as Solar. |
